Four Generations now live together on this land
but that’s not where the story begins:
Our family has been feeding America for over 350 years
The earliest ancestors of our family settled the new world in the 1600’s and began practicing agriculture while benefiting from skills and knowledge shared by the local Indians. With their help our ancestors learned how to manage the land and grow crops, taking knowledge with them as they settled The Sandy Ridge Farm property in the 1800’s.
In the early days, the farm focused on agriculture, supporting the family and nearby village. Early generations lived almost entirely off the land, existing in close proximity with the local wildlife and in a reciprocal relationship with nature.
Time passed. The industrialization of society progressed and our relationship with the land changed. Like other American farmers, our family tried out “new and improved” ways of farming. As we learned through experience, some of these practices were a benefit and some were not.
Then, in the 1990’s, the farm was faced with a decision: go all in, continuing with traditional commercial agriculture, or develop other pursuits to support and use this land. We chose the latter and embarked on a journey to build a sustainable small scale farm, fostering an environment where agricultural research is conducted. Since that time, we have been involved in numerous projects that are dedicated to living in harmony with the land, coming full circle to honor the values of our ancestors with the stewardship of this property that our family has stewarded for centuries.
The spirit of innovation has always resided here. In the 1920’s the farm was recognized as a standout on the East Coast for advancing practices in poultry and grain agriculture. Today we are channeling our innovative efforts towards projects that will further the health and wellness of Americans and people across the world.
